This is where I take my car when Dave from the Powderhorn Garage isn't available. I recently took my car to them for a second opinion after being told my air conditioner needed a new compressor. They could have convinced it was true and charged me a lot, instead they told me the truth and only charged me for a recharge. They're honest and easy to work with.

A friend of mine recommended them to me. I have been there numerous times in the past 5 or so years and have always left feeling as if I was given the best possible service. There was even a time that they told me I DIDN'T need some work done, and also didn't charge me to investigate the problem. The guys at Frenz are fantastic. They're really courteous, smart and have always explained why and how something isn't working with my truck. I've also sent a handful of female friends (I'm male) to have their cars looked at and every one of them has said they were treated in the same courteous manner. Plus, they have a student discount for all your poor students. I really can't recommend going to Frenz enough.

We've been going here five years, and are now moving away so we thought we should recommend them as a way of thanks. They've been great at explaining what needs to be done when, and what the implications are for not getting something done. They've always been very quick except when waiting for a part. They also made excellent recommendations for tire service (Theis Bros.) and body work (Paramount)--with Frenz' recommendation we didn't even bother shopping around. The student discount is especially nice since they aren't even located close to the University.

I've been going to Frenz for years. They've always been honest, helpful, and just fun folks. One time my truck quit running on the highway and I had it towed to their shop. Turns out it was out of gas! Even though they could have, they didn't treat me like I was dumb. They laughed with me and said it happens to the best of us.

These guys have been in business since the 20's, third generation now, basically at the same location. Good old germans (I can say that...I'm latino.) Honest like hell. One day I lost my check book at their shop and as soon as I got to work, there was a message from them. Have used them for over 10 years. Toom bad than don't do motors and transmissions. Experiences: 1) The first time the mechanic got in to listen to the car noise while I drove, although then, of course, the car refused to make the noise. I was impressed by their willingness to take the time to do this as soon as I arrived and without my having to leave the car, because it saved me a lot of time in needless bus rides. 2) The second time I already knew the problem, and after getting several cost estimates from other places I usually consider reasonable, I took the car there because their estimate was much less ($70 vs. $130), and the final cost came under estimate. 3) My car needs a new muffler, but I already have one sent to me by the company that carries the lifetime warranty. Unlike some national chains, they are willing to install a muffler I didn't buy there. 4) This place was recommended to me by a friend.

These guys have consistently been honest and reasonable. They do what's necessary - without "piling on". This has been a family business (they've got some great pictures on the wall) since the 20s or 30s. Location is not that great (28th and Nicollet), but they'll drop you off (usually in your car) downtown. Last time in, I had an usual problem with a Toyota: the transmission reverse light would go on when the brake was pressed. The Toyota dealer did not have any explanation. At Frenz, he remembered a small circuit board in the trunk that controls the lights. While an outrageously expensive part (from Toyota), it fixed the problems with a low labor cost.

This is a third generation family garage. I find attention there that I don't at other garages. They always laugh when they hear the word "Midas." They say it is their best providor of customers.
